Regarding the backward masking on Hotel California, I can confirm that there is a message of sorts on the song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To hear it (around 1979) I took apart my cassette and inverted it so it played the back side of the tape, which gave a muffled but backward sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The message occurs (strangely enough) on the line \u201cThere were voices down the corridor, I thought I heard them say\u201d. ( I thought \u2018corridor\u2019 a nice metaphor for the grooves in a gramophone record.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The message is supposed to be \u201cSatan has organized his own religion\u201d and although it sounds roughly like \u201dEeeer Sayta haddock haddock anazz izo relija\u201d  (i recite this from memory ) it is the only part of the song that approaches English and it fits the phrase well enough. (I rechecked this with a wave file in the 90s.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is unlikely that this was intentional. It did not spook me, although my head did spin around a few times before hovering off and settling on a stray Gary Glitter album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Worth a listen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
